HOMELESS DOG TRAINING PROGRAM

Animal Resource Foundation, Inc.  is looking for volunteers 16 years and older interested in helping with our new “Homeless Dog Training Program”. ARF has many dogs living at the Adoption Center right now that need some rehabilitation to make them more adoptable.  Because of this I am asking for your help.

The #1 reason millions of dogs are in shelters is because of behavior problems.  Often these dogs just lack the basic skills they need to live with people.ARF’s volunteers and staff already provide socialization, mental stimulation and enrichment for the dogs and cats at the center.  This new program will “take it up a notch”.  It will help teach our dogs the basic social skills they need to go to a new home and, most importantly to stay in that new home.  Using positive reinforcement with a marker signal “clicker training” techniques will not only teach these basic skills in a fast and pet friendly manner but it can quickly improve the way animals respond to people and help our shy dogs blossom.

It’s fun and easy to learn for animals and people both! Not only will the dogs benefit from this new training program but we hope our volunteers will benefit too.  This will be an educational opportunity for you.  You will learn about “clicker training” a positive reinforcement method perfect for your dogs at home.  You can help reduce your stress level.   Research shows that being around and petting an animal reduces stress. You can keep fit by walking a dog. And most importantly have the joy and satisfaction of making a difference in a shelter dog’s life.

FOSTER FAMILIES
If you would be interested in fostering please contact our office. Remember the more foster families we have the more animals we can save. You will also find that it is a very rewarding and satisfying opportunity.
Fostering Application, Contract and Instructions

TAKING CARE OF CATS and KITTENS AT THE CENTER
We have some morning, afternoon and evening shifts available for taking care of the cats/kittens .
  • Morning shift begins at 8 am for cleaning and feeding.
  • Mid afternoon is scooping the litter boxes and making sure their dry food bowl is full and evening involves feeding and scooping.
  • All shifts also require socialization for the cats/kittens.

TAKING CARE OF DOGS and PUPPIES AT THE CENTER
There are also some morning, afternoon, evening and night shifts open for taking care of the dogs. We are starting to house a larger number of dogs at the center so we could really use some help in walking and feeding them. These 4 shifts are very important because if the dogs come to us already housetrained we like to keep it that way and if they are not housetrained, we begin to work on it.
  • Our morning shift begins between 6:30 and 7:00am. The dogs at this time need walking and feeding and cleaning up after.
  • Our afternoon shift is around 12 pm which is walking the dogs and if there are any puppies their area would need to be cleaned.
  • Our evening begins between 5 and 6 pm, which involves feeding, walking and cleaning their areas if needed.
  • Our last shift is between 8 and 9 pm for the dogs last walk of the day and puppies area cleaned.

TAKING ANIMALS TO VET APPOINTMENTS
With our animal increase we will need help with the transportation of our animals to their vet appointments.
